Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
Barn/Stable; Crib (manger); Baby, Mary and Joseph Finger Puppets; Star applique; Bush applique
INSTRUCTIONS:
The Birth Of Jesus
“JESUS WAS BORN TO A WOMAN CALLED MARY WHO WAS ENGAGED TO
JOSEPH, A CARPENTER, IN THE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
IT WAS HERE, WITH THE ANIMALS, THAT MARY GAVE BIRTH TO HER SON
AND LAID HIM IN A MANGER.”
STABLE:
With brown yarn
Side Panels: Make 2
CH 23
ROW 1: work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into each CH until end (20 DC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; wok 1 SC into each DC until end (20 SC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC until end (20 DC);
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Roof:
CH 27
ROW 1: work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into each CH until end (25 DC); TURN
ROW 2: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog (23 SC); TURN
Continue to repeat row 2 until there are only 9 SC left
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Manger:
Make a magic ring or CH 4 and SL ST to form a ring
ROW 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 7 DC into ring (8 DC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each ST until end (16 DC; TURN
ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next ST;
*work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end (24 DC);
DO NOT TURN; work along the bottom; work 2 SC into each row (12 SC)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
MARY AND JOSEPH FINGER PUPPET:
Yarns blue or any color you want to make their clothing and beige for face
CH 12 – SL ST into first CH and form a ring.
RND 1: CH 1; work 1 SC into each CH all around; SL ST into first SC worked.
RND 2-8: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC all around; SL ST into first SC worked. (12 SC)
Change to beige yarn;
RND 9-12: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC all around; SL ST into first SC worked. (12 SC)
RND 13: CH 1; *SC2tog; work 1 SC into next SC. Repeat from * all around; (8 SC)
RND 14: SC2tog x 4.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Head-wear:
With white yarn
Make a magic ring or CH 4 and SL ST to form a ring;
RND 1: work 6 SC into ring;
RND 2: work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)
RND 3: work 1 SC into each SC (12 SC): TURN
ROW 4-8: CH 1; work 1 SC into next 9 SC; TURN
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing onto puppet head
Surface SL ST or sew a colored ring around head-wear.
For the ‘facial features’:
I embroidered eyes with french knots; then a mouth with a simple straight stitch;
I single crocheted Joseph a beard.
BABY FINGER PUPPET:
Yarns blue or any color you want to make the clothing and beige for face
CH 12 – SL ST into first CH and form a ring.
RND 1: CH 1; work 1 SC into each CH all around; SL ST into first SC worked.
RND 2-5: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC all around; SL ST into first SC worked. (12 SC)
RND 6-8: when working the NEXT 4 rnds for the face; switch to beige and work 5 SC where you would like your face; then switch back to your main yarn
RND 9: CH 1; *SC2tog; work 1 SC into next SC. Repeat from * all around; (8 SC)
RND 10: SC2tog x 4.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Baby Blanket: Ch 11; SC 6 rows.
THE BUSH:
With green yarn
Make a magic ring or Ch 4 and SL ST to form a ring
ROW 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 7 DC into ring (8 DC); TURN
for next row work into front-loops only
ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each ST until end (16 DC; TURN
work a mixture of STS into each front-loop across;
exp – [2 SC; 1 DC]; SL ST into next loop; [3 HDC]; SL ST into next loop.
Repeat for loops of row 1.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
THE STAR:
With yellow yarn
Make a magic ring or Ch 4 and SL ST to form a ring
Work 5 SC into ring;
SL ST into first SC; CH 6; work SL ST into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; work 1 HDC into last 2 CH;
*SL ST into next SC; CH 3; work SL ST into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into last CH;
SL ST into next SC; CH 6; work SL ST into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; work 1 HDC into last 2 CH;
Repeat from * once more.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
