Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Color – random – I used all my leftovers from the previous squares
Hook: 3.25 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Color
CH 6; SL ST to form a ring;
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring (12 DC);
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Join new color into any loop;
RND 2: work into back-loops – CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into same loop;
*SKIP next DC; work [2 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into next DC.
Repeat from * 4 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(24 DC; 6 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 1 CH space;
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into same space; work 1 TR into SKIPPED back-loop of RND 1 DC;
*work [2 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into next 1 CH space; work 1 TR into SKIPPED back-loop of RND 1 DC.
Repeat from * 4 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(24 DC; 6 x 1 CH spaces; 6 x TR)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 1 CH space;
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into same space; CH 1; work 1 DC around FPDC; CH 1; *work [2 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into next 1 CH space; CH 1; work 1 DC around FPDC;; CH 1.
Repeat from * 4 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(24 DC; 18 x 1 CH spaces; 6 x DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any back-loop of a 1 CH space between 2 DC
RND 5: work into back-loops – CH 2 ( counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space; work 2 DC into next TR; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 HDC into next 2 DC.
*Work 1 HDC into next 1 CH space; work 1 HDC into next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space; work 2 DC into next TR; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 HDC into next 2 DC.
Repeat from * 4 more times; SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH.

Join new color into any 5th HDC of any 5 HDC group;

Join new color into any 2 CH corner space
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 1;

*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) 5 times.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.

Join new color into any 2 CH corner space;
RND 9: work into back-loops – CH 4 (this counts as 1 TR); work [1 TR; CH 2; 2 TR] into SAME corner;
work 1 TR into each 1 CH space and each DC across.
*Work [2 TR; CH 2; 2 TR] into next corner; work 1 TR into each 1 CH space and each DC across.
Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
For this round work into back-loops only
NOTE: you can remove or add after the border round to get your required size – you can change the stitches to SC/HDC/DC or TR.
Just Remember – to STOP at the SAME round for each of your squares to ensure easy joining and CORRECT (same) stitch count.
BORDER RND: CH 3 (this counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner;
work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner; work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
(35 DC per side = total stitch count 140 DC)
SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
