SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Approx 20/30 grams of light weight worsted yarn- mixed (leftovers) – yarn color options are indicated in the pattern – the color I used will be highlighted
Note: colors are only a suggestion – any color can be used!
Hooks & Notions:
Hook 3,50 mm (or hook size you are comfortable to work with to make the page pieces)
Yarn needle
Stitch marker
Optional extras:
Buttons
Zipper (19 cm/7,5 inches)
Hooks & Loops
Press Buttons / Fasteners
Glue On Eyes (10 mm) – or embroidery thread to create eyes.

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
SC2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect.
WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
- Tic Tac Toe Leaf;
- Frog Applique;

INSTRUCTIONS:
This is worked on the second (back of the front) page if you are doing the playbook; if you are doing the play-mat this is the 2nd square – this is of course optional and you can work the pages and squares in any order!

LEAF:
With green yarn
CH 42
ROW 1: Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into each CH until end; TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 DC into each DC until end (40 DC); TURN
ROW 3: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 36 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 4: CH 1; work 1 DC into each DC until end (36 DC); TURN
ROW 5: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 32 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 6: CH 1; work 1 DC into each DC until end (32 DC); TURN
ROW 7: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 28 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 8: CH 1; work 1 DC into each DC until end (28 DC); TURN
ROW 9: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 24 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 10: SL ST into first 5 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 18 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 11: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 16 DC; TURN
ROW 12: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 14 DC; TURN
ROW 13: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 12 DC; TURN
ROW 14: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 10 DC; TURN
ROW 15: CH 1; work 1 DC into each ST (10 DC); TURN
ROW 16: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 6 DC; leave last 2 STS un-worked; TURN
ROW 17: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 4 DC; TURN
ROW 18: SL ST into first 3 STS; CH 1; work 1 DC into next 2 DC; TURN
SL ST all around working PICOT (CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook); randomly around leaf edges – excluding the bottom (SL ST only).
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
With brown yarn – sew or SL ST four lines onto the leaf as shown in photo above!
FROG APPLIQUE:
With white yarn
Make a magic ring or CH 4
This part uses continuous rounds – you might want to use a stitch marker to help mark the first or last stitch of each round
RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring;
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC all around (12 SC);
RND 3: *Work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next SC.** Repeat from * to ** all around (18 SC);
Fasten off and change color to lighter green
RND 4: *Work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 2 SC.** Repeat from * to ** all around (24 SC);
RND 5: *Work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 3 SC.** Repeat from * to ** all around (30 SC);
NEXT:
RND 6: SL ST into next 2 SC; work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into next SC; work 2 DC into next 2 SC;
work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC; SL ST all around until just before FIRST SC of this RND.
RND 7: Work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into next SC; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC; work 2 DC into next ST;
work 1 DC into next 3 ST; work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into next SC; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
EYES: (make 2)
With white yarn
Make a magic ring or CH 4
RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring; continue in the round and SL ST into each SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With some black yarn – sew pupils.
EYE LIDS: (make 2)
With green yarn
join into back loop of a SL ST;
SL ST into next; work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into next loop; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next loop; SL ST into next loop;
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Sew eyes into position using photo above as guide.
LEGS:
Starting with the frog’s RIGHT leg – which is on the left in the photo above;
join green yarn into the 4th SL ST with a SL ST; work [1 SC; 1 HDC] into next SL ST; work 1 DC into next 4 SL ST; work [1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SL ST; PICOT (CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook); SL ST into next SL ST;
SKIP NEXT 3 SL ST;
SL ST into next SL ST; PICOT (CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook); work [1 SC; 1 HDC] into next SL ST; work 1 DC into next 4 SL ST; work [1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SL ST; SL ST into next SL ST.
Fasten off and weave in ends
