Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!

Hook: 4,00 mm (G)

Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Clusters – 3DCtog – 3 double crochet together – into same space or stitch.

FPDC – Front post double crochet

V-ST – work [1 DC; CH 2; 1 DC] into same DC

Colors: – the colors in () are the old colors for those continuing in the first color sequence

  • Natural – color A (B)
  • Seafoam – color B (E/A)
  • Pomegranate – color C (D)
  • Fern – color D (F/G)
  • Taupe – color E (C)

INSTRUCTIONS:

With Color A

CH 8; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2DCtog; CH 2.
*Work Cluster; CH 2.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times.
SL ST into top of 2DCtog.
(8 x Clusters)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color E; join into any 2 CH space

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into same space; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.
*Work 5 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(4 x 5 DC shells; 4 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color C; join into any of the single DC – one of the stand alone 4 DC of the previous round.

Please check Special Stitches for this round.

RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 6 DC into same DC; work V-ST into the 3rd DC of next Shell.
*Work 7 DC into next stand alone DC; work V-ST into the 3rd DC of next Shell.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(4 x 7 DC shells; 4 x V-ST)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color E; join into any V-ST 2 CH space

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 6 DC into same space; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 4th DC of next Shell.
*Work 7 DC into next 2 CH space; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 4th DC of next Shell.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(4 x 7 DC shells; 4 x corners)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color D; join into any 2 CH corner space.

NOTE: if you have a tight tension – CH 6 instead of CH 5

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space; CH 5; work SC into 4th DC of next Shell; CH 5.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space; CH 5; work SC into 4th DC of next Shell; CH 5.**
(8 x 5 CH spaces; 4 SC; 4 x corners)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color A; join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 6: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; 2 CH; 3 TR] into same 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 DC into next 5 CH space; CH 4; work 1 DC into next SC; CH 4; work 1 DC into next 5 CH space; CH 2.
