Spiked Bloom Crochet Square

This Spiked Bloom Crochet Square is part of The Scrapstasy Bohemian Crochet Blanket a fun mystery crochet along to create a blanket consisting of different motif and stitch squares plus strips of a variety of stitches, finished off with a matching border. Spiked Bloom Crochet Square – Free Crochet Pattern
Supplies/Materials:
- Yarn – Vinnis Colours Nikkim (cotton yarn) – approx amounts of colours used listed in Pattern; Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
- Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – I used Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
Special Stitches will be give with each section when required.

Gauge:
However gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!
Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your square will be a different size!
Finished Size of Square:
Approx 5 1/5 inches (14 cm) – if a 6 inch is needed – add an extra row of HDC.
Pattern Notes:
Remember you can use any colors you like! This is also a super project for using leftover yarns!

Instructions:
Section 6:
NOTE: You just need to make FIVE Spiked Bloom Squares.
My Colors: amounts listed for all 5 squares
- A – Natural approx 20 g / 52 yards
- B – Lilac/Purple Pink/Lavender approx 10 g / 26 yards of each except Lavender 5 g / 13 yards
- C – Sand/Old Gold/Cappuccino approx 10 g / 26 yards of each except Cappuccino 5 g / 13 yards
- D – Mint/Raspberry/Willow approx 10 g / 26 yards of each except Willow 5 g / 13 yards
Special Stitch:
- Cluster – work 3DCtog into SAME space/stitch – see video for tutorial.
- FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet – see video for tutorial.
- FPTR – Front Post Treble – see video for tutorial.
With A – make a magic ring
RND 1: CH 4 (this counts as 1 DC and 1 CH space); work (1 DC; 1 CH) into ring 11 more times;
SL ST into 3rd of 4 CH.
(12 DC; 12 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With B – join into any 1 CH space
Starting Cluster: CH 3; work 2DCtog into same space.
RND 2: Work Starting Cluster; CH 3; (work Cluster into next 1 CH space; CH 3) 11 more times;
SL ST into top of starting Cluster.
(12 Clusters; 12 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With C – join into any 3 CH space.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into joining space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; CH 1) 11 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 x 3 DC groups; 12 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With D – join into FIRST DC of any 3 DC group.
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPTR around RND 2 Cluster.
*Work 1 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPTR around RND 2 Cluster.**
Repeat from * to ** 10 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 x 4 DC groups; 12 x FPTR)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With A – join into FIRST DC of any 4 DC group.
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work [1 TR; 2 CH; 1 TR] into next FPTR;
work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPTR; work 1 HDC into each of next 4 DC;
work 1 FPDC around next FPTR; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC.
*Work [1 TR; 2 CH; 1 TR] into next FPTR;
work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPTR; work 1 HDC into each of next 4 DC;
work 1 FPDC around next FPTR; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** once more.
Work [1 TR; 2 CH; 1 TR] into next FPTR; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPTR; work 1 HDC into each of next 4 DC; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With B – join into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into same corner; work 1 DC into each of next 5 STS;
work 1 FPDC around next FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 4 STS; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC;
work 1 DC into next 5 STS.
*Work [2 DC; CH 1; 2 DC] into same corner; work 1 DC into each of next 5 STS;
work 1 FPDC around next FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 4 STS; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC;
work 1 DC into next 5 STS.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(20 STS of each side)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
PLEASE NOTE: my cluster count in the video is wrong – I only have 11 clusters and I only noticed at round 5.
