Hip Granny Square Gift Box
Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy to Intermediate
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.
You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
The squares are the most complex to make for this project.
Gift Box – super simple construction, joining, shaping, and finishing.
Supplies/Materials:
Yarn –Moya 100% Cotton Double Knit (cotton yarn).
Weight – DK (11 wpi) Approx. – 592 yards (540 m)
Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – Clover
Scissors
Yarn needle
Button (own preference)
Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
RS – right side
WS- wrong side
Gauge:
Not necessary for this project to be perfect.
However if you use a different yarn and/or hook sizing will differ.
Using the SAME hook and yarn will ensure your squares are consistent in size.
Size:
Approx. 6 inches (15 cm) in length, width, and height.
Colors:
A – Sherbet 1 x 50g
B – Pomegranate 1 x 50g
C – Avo 1 x 50g
D – Marigold 1 x 50g

Instructions:
Squares:
Make 1 of each square design = 6 Squares.

Joining & Finishing:
Note: fasten off and weave in ends as the steps are completed.
To join the squares, use the SL ST method or any joining of preference.
1 – With A – join 4 of the squares together to form a ‘box’.
2 – With A – join 1 square on all sides to the previous 4 joined squares – this is the bottom.
3 – With B – work the crab stitch (reverse single crochet) or work single crochet all along the opening (along the 3 squares)
4 – With A – join the last square to form the ‘lid’
5 – With B – work the crab stitch (reverse single crochet) or work single crochet all along the edge of the top square.
6 – With B – in the center side of the top square chain a loop of approximately 10/15 stitches.
7 – Sew a button to the center flower of the square beneath the top square.
