Abbreviations:  US Terminology

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

Special Stitches:

HDC Starting Popcorn:

• CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 4 half double crochet (hdc) stitches in the same stitch.
• Drop the loop from your hook.
• Insert your hook from front to back under the 2^nd CH of 2 CH.
• Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the chain.

5 HDC Popcorn:

• Work 5 half double crochet (hdc) stitches in the same stitch.
• Drop the loop from your hook.
• Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first half double crochet of the group.
• Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

How to Work Crochet Popcorn Stitch:

Starting Popcorn:

• CH 3 – this counts as your FIRST DC.
• Work 4 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
• Drop the loop from your hook.
• Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
• Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Popcorn:

• Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
• Drop the loop from your hook.
• Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
• Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

How to Work Front-Post Double-Crochet (FPDC):

• Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches.
• The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
• Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
• You now have 3 loops on the hook.
• Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice.
• One front post double crochet (FPDC) is complete.

How to Work Front-Post Treble-Crochet (FPTR):

• Yarn over twice and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches or according to the instructions in the pattern.
• The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
• Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
• You now have 4 loops on the hook.
• [Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook] x 3 times.
• One front post treble crochet (FPTR) is complete.

How to Work The V-Stitch:

• Work 1 double crochet stitch, chain 1 stitch, and work another double crochet stitch into the same space/stitch.
  Exp – Work [1 DC; 1 CH; 1 DC] into ST.

With F – join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 48: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3^rd of 3 CH.
(43 V-STS on each side; 32 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)

RND 49: SL ST into next DC; SL ST into corner space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3^rd of 3 CH.

RND 50: SL ST into next DC; SL ST into corner space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 6 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 6 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 6 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 6 DC. **

RND 51: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 8 DC; work V-ST into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 DC into each of next 8 DC.

RND 53: SL ST into next DC; SL ST into corner space; *work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into corner; work 1 SC into each of next 12 DC; work 3 SC into each of next 43 V-STS; work 1 SC into each of next 12 DC. ** Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.
(155 SC on each side; 4 x 2 CH corners spaces.)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – join into any 2 CH corner space.

Note: for this round SKIP every FIRST and LAST SC – these are the SC worked into the corners of the previous round.

RND 54: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [1 TR; 2 CH; 2 TR] into corner space; work 1 TR into each SC across.
*Work [2 TR; 2 CH; 2 TR] into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 TR into each SC across. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 4^th of 4 CH.
(157 TR on each side)

RND 55: SL ST into next TR; SL ST into 2 CH corner space; work Starting HDC Popcorn; CH 1; work 1 HDC into each of next 157 TR; CH 1.
*Work HDC Popcorn into top of next 2 CH corner space; CH 1; work 1 HDC into each of next 157 TR; CH 1.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into top of Starting HDC Popcorn.
