SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

INSTRUCTIONS

Border:

With A – join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
*(CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 4 times; CH 1; work 3 DC into corner SLST (the join). ** Repeat from * to ** 3 more times;
(CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 4 times. #Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
*(CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 4 times; CH 1; work 3 DC into corner SLST (the join). ** Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; (CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 4 times.
## Repeat from # to ## 2 more times; SL ST into 3^rd of 3 CH. (24 x 3 DC groups on each side) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With D – join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 6 DC into corner space; *work 1 SC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 7 DC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side two – Work 1 SC into next 2 CH corner space; *work 7 DC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 1 SC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side three – Work 7 DC into corner space; *work 1 SC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 7 DC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side four – Work 1 SC into next 2 CH corner space; *work 7 DC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 1 SC into 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
SL ST into 3^rd of 3 CH.
(50 Shells all around – Note: you will have a shell in two corners and a SC in two corners)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With E – join into any SC in a corner.

Note: this next round is on the same level as round one – they blend to create the double shell border.

RND 2 – continued: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 6 DC into same SC; *work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 7 DC into next SC. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side two – corner – work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 2 DC; CH 1; work 1 BPSC around 1^st DC of next 2 CH. *Work 7 DC into next SC; work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. **
Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side three – corner – Work 7 DC into corner SC; *work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group; work 7 DC into next SC. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times.
Side four – corner – work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 2 DC; CH 1; work 1 BPSC around 1^st DC of next 2 CH. *Work 7 DC into next SC; work 1 BPSC around 2^nd DC of next 3 DC group. **
Repeat from * to ** 11 more times. SL ST into 3^rd of 3 CH.
