CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

INSTRUCTIONS
With I – make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 2 (this DOES NOT count as a ST); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked. (12 DC)
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC (Special Stitches) around SAME ST; *work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around SAME DC. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (x 10); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 DC; 12 FPDC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – join into any DC.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC.
*Work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC. **
Repeat from * to ** all around (x 10); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (12 DC; 24 FPDC)
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 FPDC. *Work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 FPDC. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (x 10); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (12 DC; 36 FPDC)

RND 5: *CH 4; work 2 TR into SAME ST; SKIP next 2 STS; SL ST into next ST. **
Repeat from * to ** 15 more times. (16 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With B – SL ST into first SKIPPED ST after a Petal.
RND 6: *CH 3; SL ST into next first SKIPPED ST after a Petal. ** Repeat from * to ** 15 more times. (16 x 3 CH spaces)
RND 7: SL ST into first 3 CH space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC; work 3 DC into SAME space; SL ST into the 4th CH of the first ST of the next Petal.
*Work 4 DC into next 3 CH space; SL ST into the 4th CH of the first ST of the next Petal. **
Repeat from * to ** 14 more times. (16 x 4 DC groups = 64 DC)


RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC. *Work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around SAME ST; work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (x 14); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (16 DC; 64 FPDC)
RND 9: CH 2 (does NOT count as a ST); work 1 FPDC around each ST all around; SL ST into first FPDC worked. (80 FPDC)

RND 10: *CH 4; work 4 DC into SAME ST; SKIP next 3 STS; SL ST into next ST. **
Repeat from * to ** 19 more times. (20 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With C – SL ST into first SKIPPED ST after a Petal.
RND 11: *CH 5; SL ST into next first SKIPPED ST after a Petal. ** Repeat from * to ** 19 more times. (20 x 5 CH spaces)
RND 12: SL ST into first 5 CH space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC; work 4 DC into SAME space; SL ST into the 4th CH of the first ST of the next Petal.
*Work 5 DC into next 3 CH space; SL ST into the 4th CH of the first ST of the next Petal. **
Repeat from * to ** 18 more times. (20 x 5 DC groups = 100 DC)
RND 13: CH 2 (does NOT count as a ST); work 1 FPDC around each ST all around; SL ST into first FPDC worked. (100 FPDC)

RND 14: *CH 6; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 HDC into next CH; work 1 DC into each of next 2 CH; work 1 TR into last CH; SKIP next 4 FPDC; SL ST into next FPDC. **
Repeat from * to ** 19 more times. (20 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With I – join into any FIRST SKIPPED RND 13 FPDC behind a Petal.
NB – this is important for the next few rounds to be completed correctly – see photos for guide.

RND 15: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 2 FPDC; work 2 FPDC into next FPDC.
*Work 2 DC into next FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 2 FPDC; work 2 FPDC into next FPDC. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (120 DC)
RND 16: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC; SL ST into Petal SC; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC.
*Work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; SL ST into Petal SC; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (120 DC; 20 SL ST = 140 STS)
Note – there should be 6 DC in-between each Petal – when working next round – check you don’t skip the first DC – it might be hidden behind the SL ST of the previous round.
RND 17: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC; work 1 FPDC around SL ST; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC.
*Work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work 1 FPDC around SL ST; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(120 DC; 20 FPDC = 140 STS) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – join into 2nd DC AFTER previous round FPDC with a SL ST.
RND 18: *CH 5; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 HDC into next CH; work 1 DC into each of next 2 CH; SKIP next 2 DC; SL ST into each of next 5 STS. **
Repeat from * to ** 19 more times. (20 Petals; 20 x 5 SL ST groups)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With B – join into the FIRST SL ST of a group.
Note – when working the TR stitch into the SL ST – insert in-between loops and into the stitch the SL ST was worked in – see photo.

RND 19: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work 1 TR into each of next 4 SL ST; CH 1; SL ST into Petal SC; CH 1. *Work 1 TR into each of next 5 SL ST; CH 1; SL ST into Petal SC; CH 1. **
Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
(20 x 5 TR groups = 120 TR; 40 x 1 CH spaces; 20 SL ST)

Special Stitch – Cross Stitch:
- Work 1 DC into CH space AFTER Petal; CH 1; work 1 DC into CH space BEFORE

RND 20: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 4 TR; CH 1; work Cross Stitch over Petal; CH 1. *Work 1 DC into each of next 5 TR; CH 1; work Cross Stitch over Petal; CH 1. **
(20 x 5 DC groups; 20 x Cross Stitches; 40 x 1 CH spaces – not including Cross Stitch space)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: for the next round – if you have a tight tension – or your yarn buckles – switch to a larger hook size (4 mm/ G)
With C – join into any Cross Stitch 1 CH space.
RND 21: Work a Starting HDC Popcorn (Special Stitches) ; CH 5; work 1 SC into 3rd of 5 DC group; CH 5.
*Work HDC Popcorn (Special Stitches) into next Cross Stitch 1 CH space; CH 5; work 1 SC into 3rd of 5 DC group; CH 5. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into starting Popcorn.
(20 Popcorn; 40 x 5 CH spaces; 20 SC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With D – join into ANY SC.
RND 22: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 6 DC into SAME SC; CH 3; work 1 FPSC around next Popcorn; CH 3. *Work 7 DC into next SC; CH 3; work 1 FPSC around next Popcorn; CH 3. **
Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(20 Shells; 20 FPSC; 40 x 3 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note – this round is worked BEHIND RND 21 & 22 – you will be working into RND 20 stitches
With A – join into a DC worked into a TR right after a Popcorn.

RND 23: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 2 DC into next DC; SKIP Shell ST; work 2 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; CH 2 – this is behind the Popcorn.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; SKIP Shell ST; work 2 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; CH 2. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(40 x 4 DC groups = 160 DC; 20 x 2 CH spaces)
RND 24: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; SL ST into 4th DC of Shell; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPSC.
*Work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; SL ST into 4th DC of Shell; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPSC. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(160 DC; 20 FPDC; 20 SL ST)
RND 25: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; SKIP SL ST; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC.
*Work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; SKIP SL ST; work 1 DC into each of next 4 DC; work 1 FPDC around next FPDC. ** Repeat from * to ** 18 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(160 DC; 20 FPDC = 180 STS) Fasten off and weave in ends.



With my yarn, hook and tension my mandala measures approx. 37 cm / 14 1/2 inches
