Puddles the Pocket Crochet Penguin Plushie

SKILL LEVEL:

Easy
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.

You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and provided in the instructions.

MATERIALS:

  • Hook – 3,50 mm (E)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Fiberfill/toy stuffing (small amount)

Yarn:

Vinnis Colours – DK Nikkim 100% cotton (50 grams/119 meters/130 yards)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. – very small amounts – great to for scraps.

Colors used:

Blue Bell (Blue) – Body
Natural (White) – Eyes and Stomach Patch
Sunshine (Yellow) – Beak
Orange – Feet
Black – Pupils

TENSION/GAUGE:

Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.

SIZE:

Approx. 12 cm tall and 8 cm in width

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your plushie will be a different size!

INSTRUCTIONS:

BODY:
With Blue Yarn and 3,50 mm Hook make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.

Note: This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

RND 1: Work 6 SC into circle, pull end tail to close ring. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

RND 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC).

RND 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (18 SC).

RND 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (24 SC).

RND 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (30 SC).

RND 6-8: Work 1 SC into each all around (30 SC).

RND 9: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (36 SC).

RND 10: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (42 SC).

RND 11-25: Work 1 SC into each all around (42 SC).

RND 26: WORKING IN BACKLOOPS ONLY (THIS ROUND ONLY) 
*SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 5 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (36 SC).

RND 27: *SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 4 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (30 SC).

RND 28: *SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 3 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (24 SC).

RND 29: *SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 2 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (18 SC).
STUFF PENGUIN WITH FIBERFILL/TOY STUFFING

RND 30: *SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 1 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (12 SC).

RND 31: *SC2tog. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (6 SC).

Fasten off and sew opening closes. Weave in ends.

EYES: make 2
With White Yarn and 3,50 mm Hook make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.

Note: This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

RND 1: Work 6 SC into circle, pull end tail to close ring.

RND 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC).

RND 3: Work 1 SC into next ST, work 1 HDC and 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC and 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into next ST.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing eye onto body.

With some black yarn and yarn needle – knot yarn at the back of the eye, pull yarn through center of eye and make approx. 3 – 4 long stitches to make the pupil – USE PHOTO AS GUIDE!

STOMACH PATCH:
With White Yarn and 3,50 mm Hook make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.

Note: This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

RND 1: Work 6 SC into circle, pull end tail to close ring. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

RND 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC).

RND 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (18 SC).

RND 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. ** Repeat from * to ** all around (24 SC).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing patch onto body.

FEET: make 2
With Yellow Yarn and 3,50 mm Hook CH 6

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, TURN

ROW 2: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (5 SC), TURN

ROW 3: SC2tog, work 1 SC into next ST, SC 2 tog (3 SC), TURN

ROW 4: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (3 SC), TURN

ROW 5: SC3tog. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing feet onto body.

Assembly:

  • Sew eyes and stomach into position.
  • With some yellow yarn thread some long stitches to form a beak in between the eyes.
  • Weave the tail of the feet underneath through the stitches first to come out at the starting foundation row then sew feet onto body using the loops of round 26 to help with the positioning.
