Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light
Color – 4 colors – color change indicted in pattern
Hook: 4.00 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
Special Stitches:
BEG CL: Make 3 CH, then yarn over insert hook into the ring;
yarn over over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops ( 2 loops left on hook); yarn over hook; insert hook into ring;
yarn over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops (3 loops on hook left); yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops.
CL: Work 3DCtog (work 3 double crochet together)
COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink
INSTRUCTIONS:
With C
FOUNDATION RING:
CH 6; join with a SL ST into the first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: Work BEG CL into ring; CH 1; work a CL into ring;
*CH 3; work [CL; 1 CH; CL into ring]. Repeat from * 2 more times.
CH 3; Join with a SL ST into top of BEG CL.
(8 x Clusters; 4 x 1 CH spaces and 4 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join D into any 1 CH space.
RND 2: Work BEG CL into space; CH 1; work a CL into same space;
CH 3; work [1 DC; 3 CH; 1 DC] into next 3 CH space; CH 3;
*work [CL; 1 CH; CL; into next 1 CH space;
CH 3; work [1 DC; 3 CH; 1 DC] into next 3 CH space; CH 3.
Repeat from * 2 more times. Join with a SL ST into top of BEG CL.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join A into any 1 CH space.
RND 3: Work BEG CL into space; CH 1; work a CL into same space;

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC];
CH 1; SKIP NEXT DC and 3 CH; work 3 HDC into next DC; CH 1;
work 3 HDC into next 1 CH space (between the two CL); CH 1;
work 3 HDC into next DC; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 3 CH corner space;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT DC and 3 CH; work 3 HDC into next DC; CH 1;

Join C into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space; work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space;
[Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space.] x 3;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 10: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each DC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner
When blocked the Puff Cross Granny Square should be approx 9 inches (23 cm).
