SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Barn:
With double knitting / light worsted (No 3)yarn and 3, 50 mm hook

Sides: (Make 2)
CH 26

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each CH until end (25 SC), TURN
ROW 2 – 3: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC), TURN
ROW 4: CH 1, work 2 SC into first SC, work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN
ROW 5: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until last ST, work 2 SC into last ST, TURN
ROW 6:CH 1, work 2 SC into first SC, work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN
ROW 7: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until last ST, work 2 SC into last ST.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing ( or optional use a different color yarn like I did)

Second side is worked switching rows 4-7 in reverse
Work instructions for ROW 1-3, then work from ROW 7 – 4

ROW 6 – 10: SC2tog, work 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS, SC2tog, TURN
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing ( or optional use a different color yarn like I did)

ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), SKIP next ST, work 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into SKIPPED ST (cross st created). *SKIP next ST, work 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into SKIPPED ST. Repeat from * until last ST, work 1 DC into last ST. (26 STS)
ROW 3: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST until end, TURN (26 STS)
Repeat row 2 & 3 five more times.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

ASSEMBLING THE BARN:

STEP 1: Sew on the bottom pocket first;
STEP 2: Sew on the second pocket just above the first (see photo)

Note: Do not sew the part facing inwards.

Row 3: CH1, work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 SC, work 2 SC into last ST (6 SC), turn
Row 4: CH1, work 1 SC into each SC (6 SC), turn
Row 5: CH1, work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 4 SC, work 2 SC into last ST (8 SC), turn
Row 6: CH1, work 1 SC into each SC (8 SC), turn
Row 7: CH1, work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 6 SC, work 2 SC into last ST (10SC), turn
Row 8: CH1, work 1 SC into each SC (10 SC), turn

Row 10: CH1, work 1 SC into each SC (12 SC), continue working in the round – work 1 SC into each row and foundation sts and each row. Fasten and leave a tail for sewing
Sew 12 cm ribbons (different colors) or approx 30 – 40 cm ribbon onto the back of the sun (see photo)

Sew Sun onto the right hand top corner.

The Cow
With white yarn, make a magic circle

Make 2
Rnd 1: CH 2. Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). Move Marker
Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). Move Marker
Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). Move Marker
Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). Move Marker
Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). Move Marker
Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). Move Marker
ROW 8: Work 1 SC into the next 6 STS, SL ST into the next ST, TURN

With brown yarn, make magic circle.
Work random spots of first round working up 6 STS and/or second round working up 12 STS for exp:
RND 1: Work 6 SC into magic circle
RND 2: Work randomly different sts – 2 SC into next, 1 SC, 1 HDC, into next, 1 HDC, 1 DC into next, 2 SC into next x 3.

Work spots randomly onto the front  and back pieces.

Sew the two body pieces wrong sides together.

Stuff body with some fiberfill/toy stuffing before completely sewing close.

Leave a starting tail of approx 10 cm

Ears: Insert hook into a loop on the side of the head – see photos
Work [1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC] into the same loop.
Fasten off and leave a tail approx the same length as starting tail

Repeat for other side

Knot the two tail together on the front of the ear – to shape the ear.

Weave the tails through the body – see photos – trim the ends.

Tail: Insert hook to pop out the center of the magic ring – see photo
Make a chain of approx 6 – 10 STS long.
Weave top starting tail through the chain to pop out the bottom:
knot the two tail ends and trim
