The Kissing Princess

Materials:
- Double knitting/light worsted yarn (No 3)
- Approx 25 grams of beige and green
- Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in pastel yellow, dark pink and brown for hair
- Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in black and white/cream
- Hooks 4, 00 mm & 3, 50 mm
- Yarn Needle
- Stitch Marker
Abbreviations:
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
SPECIAL STITCH – Picot: CH 3, SL ST into first CH
Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect – crocheting the same tension throughout will ensure squares are approx the same size.
Finished Size:
Approx 14 cm x 14 cm
Instructions:
Circle/Face:
Make a magic circle with beige yarn and 4, 00 mm hook
Rnd 1: CH3 into circle (counts as 1 DC), work 11 DC into circle, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (12 DC)
Rnd 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 2 DC into next ST. * Work 2 DC into each ST. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (24 DC),
Rnd 3: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 1 DC into next ST. * Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (36 DC)
Rnd 4: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 1 DC into next 2 STS. * Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (48 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends
continue as follows:
Join green yarn into any back loop of round 4
Rnd 5: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into ST (first corner made), *SKIP 2 STS, work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (second corner made),*SKIP 2 STS, work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (third corner made),*SKIP 2 STS, work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (fourth corner made),*SKIP 2 STS, work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH
Rnd 6-7: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each ST all around and work 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner 2 CH.
Creating The Hair:
Cut 12 x approx 60 cm in length brown yarn tails (24 in total for both sides)
*Insert hook into the center ST loop, pull thru 2 tails; make a ‘tassel’ .
Repeat * for the next 5 loops to the left – see photos
Twist hair a few times; insert hook into the center loop ST on the left side
– see photos
Pull ALL the yarn tails thru this loop
Pleat hair and tie.
Repeat instructions for right side.
Creating The Facial Features:
All features are worked with a 3,50 mm hook
Eyes: (Make 2)
Make a magic circle
RND 1: Work 6 SC into circle;
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC of previous round (12 SC)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Eyelids: (Make 2)
Make a magic circle
ROW 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 7 DC into circle (8 DC), TURN
ROW 2: CH 1, work 1 SC into each DC of previous row (8 SC)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Nose:
Make a magic circle
Work 8 SC into circle
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Kissing Lips:
Make a magic circle
Work into circle as follows;
1 SC. 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, SL ST;
1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC;
SL ST;
1 SC. 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, SL ST;
1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC;
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Embroider a small black pupil onto the eyes – see photo;
Sew nose into position;
Sew eyes and eyelids into position;
Sew lips into position – note: do not work the four corners of the lips to the face;
this gives a little bit of a 3D effect
The Crown:
with yellow yarn CH 18 and SL ST into first CH to form a ring
RND 1: CH 1, work 1 SC into each CH (18 SC)
RND 2: CH 3, work 2DCtog, Picot, CH 3, SL ST into same ST as last DC.
*SL ST into next ST, CH 3, work 2DCtog, Picot, CH 3, SL ST into same ST as last DC.
Repeat from * 4 more times.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
