Eight Petal Flower Crochet Square
Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.
You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

- Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. - Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

INSTRUCTIONS:
FOUNDATION RING:
Make a magic ring
RND 1: CH 1, work 8 SC into ring, join with a SL ST into first SC
RND 2: CH 1, work 2 SC into each SC of round 1, join with a SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 3: Join new color into any SC;
Work a Beg PS into same ST;
*CH 3, SKIP NEXT ST, work a PS into next ST.
Repeat from * 6 more times, join with a SL ST into top of first PS made. (8 PS, 3 CH spaces)
RND 4: CH 1, work 1 SC into same PS;
*work 3 SC into next 3 CH space; work 1 SC into next PS.
Repeat from * 6 more times, join with a SL ST into first SC (32 STS)
Fasten off and weave in ends
RND 5: Join new color into any SC;
CH 4; work [2 TR into next SC] twice; CH 4; SL ST into next ST.
*SL ST into next ST; CH 4; work [2 TR into next SC] twice; CH 4; SL ST into next ST.
Repeat from * 7 more times, SL ST into the base of beginning 4 CH (8 Petals)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 6: Join new color into the BACK LOOP of the SL ST between the petals (see photos as a guide);
CH 6 (counts as 1 DC and 3 CH), work 1 DC into the same space;
*CH 3, work 1 DC into next SL ST Loop, CH 3;
work [2 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC] into next SL ST loop.
Repeat from * twice more; CH 3, work 1 DC into next SL ST Loop, CH 3;
join with a SL ST into the 3rd CH of the beginning CH (12 STS, 12 CH spaces)
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC;
*Work [ 3 DC, 1 TR, 3 DC] into the corner 3 CH space; work 1 DC into next DC;
work 4 DC into 3 CH space; work 1 DC into next DC; work 4 DC into next 3 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC.
Repeat from * 3 more times; omitting the last DC to be worked, join with a SL ST into the 3rd Ch of starting 3 CH
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 8: Join new color into any CORNER TR;
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC, 2 CH , 2 DC into same TR.
Work 1 DC into each DC all around; working [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into each corner TR.
SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into corner 2 CH space.
Work 1 DC into each DC all around; work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into each corner 2 CH space, SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 10: Join new color into any 2 CH corner space
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC, 2 CH , 2 DC into corner 2 CH space.
Work 1 DC into each DC all around; work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into each corner 2 CH space. SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
RND 11: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into corner 2 CH space.
Work 1 DC into each DC all around; work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into each corner 2 CH space. SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 12 : Join new color into any 2 CH corner space
CH 1, work 3 SC into corner 2 CH space.
Work 1 SC into each DC all around, working 3 SC into each 2 CH corner space.
Join with a SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
