SKILL LEVEL:

Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing. Concentration required.

Yarn: Eco-cotton
Weight – Double Knit
Yardage – 125 meters (50 g)
Fibres – 100% cotton

1 x 50g Aventurine
1 x 50g Sunkissed Coral
1 x 50 g Mist
1 x 50g Willow

I used about 20 g of each color for the potholder only.

Hook: 3, 25 mm

Size: 13 inches in diameter

Notes:

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet

Design Notes:

This pattern can be made smaller or larger depending on what is required.
Versatile to be converted into place-mats; dishcloths and doilies.

Special Stitches:

BEG CL:
Make 3 CH, then yarn over insert hook into the ring;
yarn over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops ( 2 loops left on hook); yarn over hook; insert hook into ring;
yarn over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops (3 loops on hook left); yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops.
CL: Work 3DCtog (work 3 double crochet together

BPDC – back post double crochet

  • Step 1: yarn over on hook.
  • Step 2: Insert hook into hole next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side” from back to front
  • Step 3: Bring the hook back to the back of the fabric around the post, to the hole farther from the hook.
  • Step 4: yarn over and draw through a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops on hook)
  • Step 5: yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
  • Step 6: yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

FPDC – front post double crochet

Insert your hook into the front of your work, behind the indicated stitch, and then through your work such that your hook is now at the front of your work again. Pull through final 2 loops on your hook.

INSTRUCTIONS:

With Aventurine (Blue)

Make a magic ring OR crochet a chain of 6 and SL ST to form a ring.

RND 1: work 8 SC into ring; join with a SL ST into first SC.

RND 2: work BEG CL into first SC; *CH 3; work CL into next SC.
Repeat from * 6 more times. CH 3; join with a SL ST into top of BEG CL.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With Sunkissed Coral (Orange)

Join into any 3 CH space;

RND 3: work *[1 SC; 1 HDC; 3 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC]** into 3 CH space;
Repeat from * to ** into each 3 CH space all around.
(8 petals)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With Willow (Green)

Join with a SL ST around any CL of round 2.
CH 10 (counts as first BPDC and 7 space CH)
RND 4: *BPDC around next CH; CH 7.
Repeat from * 6 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 10 CH; SL ST into 7 CH space.

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as DC); work 6 DC into 7 CH space; CH 1.
Work * 7 DC into next 7 CH space; CH 1.
Repeat from * 6 more times. (8 petals)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With Mist (White/Cream)

Join with an SC into the FIRST DC of any 7 DC petal.
RND 6: work 1 SC into next 6 DC; work FPDC around RND 4’s BPDC.
*Work 1 SC into next 7 DC; work FPDC around next BPDC of rnd 4.
Repeat from * all around. (8 FPDC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With Aventurine (Blue)

Join into the FIRST SC of a 7 SC group;
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as DC); work 1 DC into next 6 SC; work FPDC around next FPDC.
*Work 1 DC into next 7 DC; work FPDC around next FPDC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With Sunkissed Coral (Orange)

Join with a SL ST around any FPDC of round 7. CH 8 (counts as first FPDC and 5 space CH);
RND 8: SKIP next 3 DC; 1 SC into next DC; CH 5; SKIP next 3 DC.
*FPDC around next FPDC; CH 5; SKIP next 3 DC; 1 SC into next DC; CH 5; SKIP next 3 DC.
Repeat from * all around; join with a SL ST into 3rd of 8 CH.
SL ST into next 5 CH space;
RND 9: *work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 3 DC] into 5 Ch space; CH 3; SKIP SC; work [3 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next 5 CH space; SKIP FPDC.
Repeat from * all around.

With Willow (Green)

Join into any 3 CH space;
RND 10: CH 3 (counts as DC); work [2 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into 3 CH space; CH 5; work FPDC around RND 8 FPDC.

Join into any 3 CH space;

Repeat from * until end; working 1 DC into 3rd of turning 3 CH.
