Notes:

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)

Special Stitches:

5 DC POPCORN (PC):

• Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches into the same stitch.
• Drop the loop from your hook.
• Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
• Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
• Work 1 CH to ‘close’ the popcorn

3DCtog CLUSTER STITCH (CL):

• Yarn Over hook insert hook into the next stitch in the row.
• Yarn Over and draw through the first 2 loops on the hook.
• Yarn Over insert our hook and draw through the loop, you should have 4 loops on your hook.
• Yarn Over draw through the first 2 loops only and you should have 3 loops on your hook.
• Yarn Over and insert hook and draw through that will give you 5 loops on your hook.
• Yarn Over and draw through the first 2 loops. That will leave you with 4 loops on your hook and will leave 3 have finished double crochet sts.
• Yarn Over and draw through all 4 loops on the hook.
• Secure the cluster with a chain stitch.

NOTE: I have given an alternate pattern instructions if you do not want to do the Popcorn Stitch.
The alternate is shown in the tutorial images.

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC/or do a Standing DC); work 4 DC into corner – complete PC; CH 3; work PC into same corner; SKIP 2 DC; CH 3;
work [PC; CH 2; SKIP 1 DC] 11 times;
work PC; CH 3; SKIP 2 DC.
*Work [PC; CH 3; PC] into next corner; SKIP 2 DC; CH 3;
work [PC; CH 2; SKIP 1 DC] 11 times;
work PC; CH 3; SKIP 2 DC.
Repeat from *2 more times. SL ST into top of first PC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

ALTERNATE RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC/or do a Standing DC); work 2DCtog into corner; CH 3; work CL into same corner; SKIP 2 DC; CH 3;
work [CL; CH 2; SKIP 1 DC] 11 times;
work CL; CH 3; SKIP 2 DC.
*Work [CL; CH 3; CL] into next corner; SKIP 2 DC; CH 3;
work [CL; CH 2; SKIP 1 DC] 11 times;
work CL; CH 3; SKIP 2 DC.
Repeat from *2 more times. SL ST into top of first PC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join yarn into any 3 CH corner

RND 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC/or do a Standing DC); work [1 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into same corner;
SKIP next PC; CH 1; work 1 DC into the 2nd DC of the next 2 DC of RND 4;
work [CH 1; SKIP next PC; work 1 DC into DC of RND 4] 11 times;
CH 1; SKIP next PC; work 1 DC into the 1st DC of the next 2 DC of RND 4; CH 1.
*Work [2 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into same corner;
SKIP next PC; CH 1; work 1 DC into the 2nd DC of the next 2 DC of RND 4;
work [CH 1; SKIP next PC; work 1 DC into DC of RND 4] 11 times;
CH 1; SKIP next PC; work 1 DC into the 1st DC of the next 2 DC of RND 4; CH 1.
