The Cosmic Constellation Throw – Free Crochet Pattern
This Cosmic Constellation Throw is the joining of the the first 9 squares in the 2018 Crochet A Block Crochet Along! Completely optional to make a separate throw.
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Color – 5 colors – color change indicted in pattern
Hook: 3.25 mm
Size: Throw – approx 32 x 32 inches – Border only approx 3 inches.
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

Special Stitches:
FPTR – front post treble crochet
Yarn over 2 times, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, (yarn over, pull thru 2 loops on your hook) 3 times.

INSTRUCTIONS:
The Joining:
With Grapefruit – B
Position your squares in the order you would like to join them;
then starting with your first two squares; holding them wrong sides facing each other (the right side will be facing you); SL ST into the first two corners together; then continue working into the back loops only along the side of the squares as follows:
*CH 2; SL ST into the next back loops (the front and back square loops together).
Repeat until the next corners; SL ST the corners together.
DO NOT 2 CH;
SL ST the corners of the next two squares together;
*CH 2; SL ST into the next back loops (the front and back square loops together).
Repeat until the next corners; SL ST the corners together.
DO NOT 2 CH;
SL ST the corners of the next two squares together;
*CH 2; SL ST into the next back loops (the front and back square loops together).
Repeat until the next corners; SL ST the corners together.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat instructions twice more for the remaining squares;
then 3 more times in the length to close the gaps and secure the squares together.
The Border:
With Grapefruit – B
Join into any 2 CH corner space;
NOTE: work into back loops
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
#work 1 DC into next 3 DC;
*work 1 FPTR into the CENTER TR of the 3 TR CLUSTER of the Square below;
work 1 DC into next 3 DC.
Repeat from * 7 more times;
**skip corner; work 1 DC into the JOIN; skip corner;
work 1 DC into next 3 DC;
*work 1 FPTR into the CENTER TR of the 3 TR CLUSTER of the Square below;
work 1 DC into next 3 DC.
Repeat from * 7 more times.
Repeat instructions from ** one more time.#
(Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
repeat instructions from # to # once.) x 3 times.
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Amazon – D
Join into any 2 CH corner space;
NOTE: work into back loops
RND 2: *Work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into corner space; work 1 SC into each ST until next corner.
Repeat from * 3 more times.
SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Kiwi – E
Join into any 2 CH corner space;
NOTE: work into back loops
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into next 6 SC; SKIP NEXT SC; work 1 FPTR around previous FPTR;
*work 1 DC into next 3 SC; SKIP NEXT SC; work 1 FPTR around previous FPTR.
Repeat from * 6 more times; work 1 DC into next 3 SC;
work 1 FPTR around the DC worked into the join;
