SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Approx 20/30 grams of light weight worsted yarn- mixed (leftovers) – yarn color options are indicated in the pattern – the color I used will be highlighted
Note: colors are only a suggestion – any color can be used!
Hooks & Notions:
Hook 3,50 mm (or hook size you are comfortable to work with to make the page pieces)
Yarn needle
Stitch marker
Optional extras:
Buttons
Zipper (19 cm/7,5 inches)
Hooks & Loops
Press Buttons / Fasteners
Glue On Eyes (10 mm) – or embroidery thread to create eyes.

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
SC2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect.
WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
- Small Picnic Blanket
- Build A Sandwich
- Build A Hamburger
- Small Doggie

INSTRUCTIONS:
This is worked on the third (back of the front) page if you are doing the playbook; if you are doing the play-mat this is the 3rd square – this is of course optional and you can work the pages and squares in any order!

Picnic Blanket:
With yarn (any)
CH 26
ROW 1: work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (25 SC); TURN
ROW 2 – 22:CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC until end (25 SC); TURN
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing

BUILDING THE PAGE:
- Sew picnic blanket centered onto the page;
- Sew picnic basket (part 3) over the bottom edge of blanket – leaving the top open for a pocket.

Picnic Food:
Build A Sandwich:
With yarn – brown (bread) – make 2 – yellow (cheese) – make 1
CH 13
ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (12 SC); TURN
ROW 2: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each SC until last 2 SC; SC2tog; TURN
Repeat ROW 2 until only 2 SC left; SC2tog;
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Build A Hamburger:
With yarn – brown (bread) – make 2
Make a magic ring or CH 6;
RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 2 DC into each DC all around (24 DC);
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH;
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With yarn – dark brown (meat) – make 1
Make a magic ring or CH 6;
RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 2 DC into each DC all around (24 DC);
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH;
RND 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC all around – do not work too tight – if too tight
(work 1 SC into DC; then 2 SC into next DC) – repeat all around.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With yarn – green (lettuce) – make 1
Make a magic ring or CH 6;
RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 2 DC into each DC all around (24 DC);
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH;
RND 3: CH 1; work randomly into each ST a combination of STS – for example – [1 SC; DC; 1 HDC] into next SC;
1 SC into next 2 SC; work [1 DC; 2 HDC] into next SC and so on.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

The Doggie: make 2
With yarn, make a magic ring
Use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds
Rnd 1: Work 6 SC into ring
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)
Rnd 3: Work 2 SC into first SC, work 1 SC into next SC. *Work 2 SC into next SC, work 1 SC into next SC. Repeat from * until end of round ( 18 SC)
Row 4: Work 1 SC into next 3 STS, SL ST into the next ST, TURN
Row 5: CH1, SKIP the SL ST, work 1 SC into next 3 STS, SL ST into the next ST, TURN
Row 6: CH1, SKIP the SL ST, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, SL ST into next, TURN
Row 7: DO NOT CH1, work 2 SC into next 2 STS, TURN
Row 8: CH1, work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 SC, work 2 SC into next ST, TURN (6 SC)
Row 9: CH1, work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, work 2 SC into next ST, TURN (8 SC)
Row 10-11: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST (8SC), TURN
Row 12: DO NOT CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SC2tog (6 SC), TURN
Row 13: DO NOT CH1, SC2tog, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, SC2tog (4 SC)
Row 14: DO NOT CH1, SC2tog twice
DO NOT TURN – continue working in the round. SL ST all around until head –
Do this for one side only!
SL ST into a few STS then CH 5, work 1 SC into 3rd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next, work 1 HDC into next 2 STS, (ear made) SKIP A ST, SL ST into next ST, SL ST into a few STS, repeat ear instructions, SL ST all around, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
The Tail:
CH 12
Work 4 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 4 SC into each CH until end, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing to body.

Using the whip-stitch method, sew the two doggie pieces together, using the outer loops of the SL ST stitches made all around the doggie.
