SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Approx 20/30 grams of light weight worsted yarn- mixed (leftovers) – yarn color options are indicated in the pattern – the color I used will be highlighted
Note: colors are only a suggestion – any color can be used!
Hooks & Notions:
Hook 3,50 mm (or hook size you are comfortable to work with to make the page pieces)
Yarn needle
Stitch marker
Optional extras:
Buttons
Zipper (19 cm/7,5 inches)
Hooks & Loops
Press Buttons / Fasteners
Glue On Eyes (10 mm) – or embroidery thread to create eyes.

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
SC2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect.

INSTRUCTIONS:
This is worked on the third (back of the front) page if you are doing the playbook; if you are doing the play-mat this is the 3rd square – this is of course optional and you can work the pages and squares in any order!

Ladybug & Spider Appliques:
Make 5 of each
Body:
Ladybug – red/pink yarn
Spider – grey/black yarn
Make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST to form a ring
RND 1: CH 2 (does not count as a ST); work 12 DC into ring;
SL ST into first DC worked
RND 2: CH 2 (does not count as a ST); work 2 DC into each DC all around (24 DC); SL ST into first DC
For Ladybug – Fasten off and weave in ends.
For Spider:
CH 1; work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into DC; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next DC;
SL ST into next 3 STS; CH 6; work 1 SC into next 5 CH;
(SL ST into next 2 STS; CH 6; work 1 SC into next 5 CH) x 3
SL ST into next 3 STS; CH 6; work 1 SC into next 5 CH;
(SL ST into next 2 STS; CH 6; work 1 SC into next 5 CH) x 3
SL ST into last few STS;
Fasten off and weave in ends
Use black embroider/2 ply yarn to embroider eyes and spots.
I actually used Black Fabric Pen!
Basket:
CH 30
ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each until end (29 SC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC until end (29 DC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around next 3 DC;
*work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 BPDC around next 3 DC;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around next 3 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** until last DC; work 1 DC into last DC; TURN
ROW 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around next 3 BPDC;
*work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 BPDC around next 3 FPDC;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 FPDC around next 3 BPDC.**
Repeat from * to ** until last DC; work 1 DC into last DC; TURN
Repeat ROW 4 – 2 more times
ROW 7: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (29 SC);
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
