INSTRUCTIONS:
PART TWO:
Place the piece with the square on the right and the waves on the left;
join new yarn into the corner CH space – see photos
The RIGHT SIDE should be facing towards you!
NOTES: I worked into the back-loops of the square BUT this is optional!
ROW 1: Work up 34 SC across the square = [1 SC into corner space; 1 SC into 32 STS; 1 SC into corner space];
work up 16 SC all waves edges = [1 SC into ‘join’ between square and waves; (2 SC into TR; 1 SC into SC) x 5]
Total = 50 SC; TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC across (50 SC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); SKIP 1 SC; work 3 DC into next SC;
*SKIP 2 SC; work 3 DC into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** 14 more times; SKIP next SC; work 1 DC into last SC; TURN
(16 x 3 DC groups)
ROW 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); (work 3 DC into the CENTER (2nd) DC of next 3 DC group) x 16 times;
work 1 DC into 3rd of 3 CH; TURN
(16 x 3 DC groups)
Repeat ROW 4 FOUR more times.
ROW 9: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
change color
ROW 10: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
ROW 11: REPEAT ROW 3;
ROW 12: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
change color
ROW 13: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
ROW 14: REPEAT ROW 3;
ROW 15: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
change color
ROW 16: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC); TURN
ROW 17: REPEAT ROW 3;
ROW 18: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC across (50 SC);
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With RIGHT SIDE facing towards you – join new yarn into FIRST SC of ROW 18 (which would actually be the LAST SC you worked – because you ended with a WRONG SIDE ROW.
NOTE: concentration required for next part – but the important thing is work up 50 SC evenly along each side.
The square and waves STS – already give you each ST count you still need to ‘fill in’ the rest.
RND 1: Work 1 SC into joining SC; work 1 SC across next 48 SC; work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into last SC;
continue down the side; work up 48 SC evenly all the side;
working [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into the last ST;
continue along the bottom;
work up 16 SC along the waves edge and 33 SC along the square; work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into corner space;
continue up the side;
work up 33 SC along the square and 16 SC along the final edge;
work [1 SC; 2 CH] into SAME SC as the JOIN; SL ST into starting SC.
You SHOULD have 50 SC evenly along each side and 4 x 2 CH corner spaces.
The image below shows how I worked up my SC round – the SC count below DOES NOT INCLUDE the corners;
WITH THE CORNERS [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] – each SIDE will give you 50 SC!
NOTE: optional – work into back-loops only
RND 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC across (50 SC); *work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 SC into each SC across.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into 2 CH corner space;
(52 SC on EACH side)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
change color – join into any 2 CH corner space
NOTE: optional – work into back-loops only for next 2 rounds
I used the STANDING DC – find tutorial under Special Stitches at the top of this post.
RND 3: CH 5 (counts as 1 DC and 2 CH/ or use a STANDING DC; CH 2) – work 1 DC into same corner space to create first CORNER; work Cross Stitch x 26 – [SKIP NEXT DC; work 1 DC into NEXT DC; work 1 DC into SKIPPED DC] 1 x Cross Stitch Made;
*work [1 DC; 2 CH; 1 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
work Cross Stitch 26 times.**
Repeat from *to** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 5 CH/or into top of STANDING DC;
RND 4: CH 1; *work 1 SC into next 54 DC; work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into corner.**
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.
(56 SC on each SIDE)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
When BLOCKED INTO SHAPE (square) – my square measures approx 15 inches (38 cm)
