I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

Special Stitches:

STANDING DC – tutorial from Moogly

Cluster: work 2DCtog – 2 double crochet together
V-ST: work [1 DC; CH 1; 1 DC] into same space

INSTRUCTIONS: 

Color Notes: you can use your colors in any order there is no specific instructions on color use.

PART TWO:

With yarn join into any CH space of a V-ST (1 DC; 1 CH; 1DC – worked into same space)

RND 8: CH 3/ or do the Standing DC; work 4 D into same CH space; CH 2; work 1 FPDC around next SC; CH 2.
*Work 5 DC into next V-ST CH space; CH 2; work 1 FPDC around next SC; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH or top of Standing DC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join new yarn into any 3rd DC of a 5 DC group

RND 9: CH 4 – this counts as 1 DC and 1 CH space/ or do the Standing DC and CH 1; work 1 DC into same space;
CH 1; work 5 DC into next FPDC; CH 1.
*Work V-ST into next 3rd DC of 5 DC group; CH 1; work 5 DC into next FPDC; CH 1.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST into 3rd CH of 4 CH or top of Standing DC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join new yarn into any 3rd DC of a 5 DC group

RND 10: CH 4 – this counts as 1 DC and 1 CH space/ or do the Standing DC and CH 1; work 1 DC into same space;
CH 2; work CLUSTER into next 1 CH space; work 1 DC into CH space of V-ST; CH 1; work CLUSTER into next 1 CH space; CH 2.
*Work V-ST into 3rd DC of next 5 DC group; CH 2; work CLUSTER into next 1 CH space; work 1 DC into CH space of V-ST; CH 1; work CLUSTER into next 1 CH space; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST into 3rd CH of 4 CH or top of Standing DC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Mark corners with Stitch Markers – this is optional – but it does make the next round easier!

Place stitch marker into ANY DC worked between CLUSTERS;
*THEN SKIP next V-ST; CLUSTER GROUP; V-ST; CLUSTER GROUP; V-ST;
place next stitch marker into next DC worked between CLUSTERS.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times.

Join yarn into ANY DC marker with a stitch marker or/ Join yarn into ANY DC between CLUSTERS.

RND 11: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; CH 3; 3 TR] into DC; CH 4; work 3 DC into next V-ST ch space;
CH 4; work 2 HDC into next DC between CLUSTERS; CH 4; work 1 SC into next V-ST ch space; CH 4;
work 2 HDC into next next DC between CLUSTERS; CH 4; work 3 DC into next V-ST ch space; CH 4.
*Work [3 TR; CH 3; 3 TR] into next DC between CLUSTERS CH 4; work 3 DC into next V-ST ch space;
CH 4; work 2 HDC into next DC between CLUSTERS; CH 4; work 1 SC into next V-ST ch space; CH 4;

RND 12: SL ST into next 2 TR; SL ST into 3 CH corner space; CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [3 TR; CH 3; 4 TR] into same corner space; CH 1; (work 3 DC into next 4 CH space; CH 1) 6 times.
*Work  [4 TR; CH 3; 4 TR] into same corner space; CH 1; (work 3 DC into next 4 CH space; CH 1) 6 times.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

After RND 12 – square should approx measure 10 inches.

Join yarn into any 3 CH corner space

RND 13: CH 3/ or do the Standing DC; work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into the back-loops of each DC AND CH space until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into the back-loops of each DC AND CH space until next corner.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH or top of Standing DC.
