Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!

Hook: 4,00 mm (G)

Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

SPECIAL STITCHES:

Clusters – 3DCtog – 3 double crochet together – into same space or stitch.

Colors: – the colors in () are the old colors for those continuing in the first color sequence

  • Natural – color A (B)
  • Seafoam – color B (E/A)
  • Pomegranate – color C (D)
  • Fern – color D (F/G)
  • Taupe – color E (C)

INSTRUCTIONS:

With Color A

CH 8; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2DCtog; CH 2.
*Work Cluster; CH 2.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times.
SL ST into top of 2DCtog.
(8 x Clusters)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color B; join into any 2 CH space

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same space; CH 1; SKIP Cluster.
*Work 3 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 1; SKIP Cluster.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times.
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(8 x 3DC groups)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color C; join into first DC of a 3 DC group

RND 3: work into back-loops – *work 1 SC into each of next 3 DC; work [1 FPDC around SKIPPED Cluster; CH 2; 1 FPDC around SAME Cluster]**
Repeat from *to** 7 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.
(8 x 3 SC groups; 16 FPDC; 8 x 2 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color D; join into the 2nd (center) SC of a 3 SC group

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); CH 2; SKIP SC and FPDC; work Cluster into next 2 CH space; CH 2;
SKIP FPDC and SC.
*Work 1 DC into next SC; CH 2; SKIP SC and FPDC; work Cluster into next 2 CH space; CH 2;
SKIP FPDC and SC.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(8 x Clusters; 8 x DC; 16 x 2 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color C; join into any 2 CH space BEFORE a DC

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same space; work 1 FPDC around next DC; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 1; work 1 FPDC around next Cluster; CH 1.
*Work 2 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 FPDC around next DC; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 1; work 1 FPDC around next Cluster; CH 1.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(16 x FPDC; 32 DC; 16 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color E; join into any ST

RND 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each DC; 1 CH space and  1 FPDC around each FPDC all around.
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
(64 STS – 16 FPDC; 48 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With color A; join into any FPDC worked around a FPDC ABOVE a Cluster – see photo

RND 7: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; 2 CH; 3 TR] into same FPDC; CH 2;
work 1 DC into next FPDC; CH 4;
work 1 HDC into next FPDC; CH 4;
work 1 DC into next FPDC; CH 2.
*Work [3 TR; 2 CH; 3 TR] into next FPDC; CH 2;
work 1 DC into next FPDC; CH 4;
work 1 HDC into next FPDC; CH 4;
work 1 DC into next FPDC; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.

RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 2 TR; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into next 3 TR; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;
work 1 DC into next HDC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next 3 TR; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;

(29 STS per side – 16 DC; 13 x 1 CH spaces on each side)

RND 10: CH 4 (counts as 1 DC and 1 CH space); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
(CH 1; SKIP next DC; work 1 DC into next DC) x 14; CH 1.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;

With color C; join into any corner 2 CH space

RND 11: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space until next corner space.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space; work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space until next corner space.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
