Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Hook: 4,00 mm (G)
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

V-ST: work [1 DC; 1 CH; 1 DC] into same space/chain
Colors:
- Amazon – color A
- Natural – color B
- Butternut – color C
- Teal – color D

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Color B
CH 8; SL ST into first CH to form a ring
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 15 DC into ring (16 DC);
RND 2: *SL ST in-between next 2 DC; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 7 more times; SL ST into 1st CH of first 3 CH loop.
(8 x 3 CH loops)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color C; join into any 3 CH loop
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into SAME space; work [1 SC; CH 3; 1 SC] into next 3 CH space.
*Work 5 DC into next 3 CH space; work [1 SC; CH 3; 1 SC] into next 3 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color B; join into any 3rd DC of a 5 DC group (center DC)
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into SAME DC; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC; work V-ST into next SC; CH 1; work V-ST into next SC; CH 2.
*SKIP next 2 DC; work 5 DC into next DC; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC; work V-ST into next SC; CH 1; work V-ST into next SC; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
NOTE: the next part is not classified as a round but as surface crochet;
TIP: to make it easier to work – fold the square in half – just remember to keep the right way facing towards you!
With color E;
join with a SC around the SL ST just before a V-ST (this is the FIRST V-ST worked into a SC) – see photo; CH 10; work 1 SC around next SL ST; CH 3.
*Work 1 SC around NEXT SL ST; CH 10; work 1 SC around next SL ST ; CH 3.**
Repeat from *to** 2 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Pull the 10 CH loop thru the 3 CH space in-between the 2 V-STS – do this for all 4 10 CH loops.
With color C; join into any 3rd DC of a 5 DC group (center DC)
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into same DC; CH 2; work V-ST into next 2 CH space; CH 1;
work V-ST into next 1 CH space AND 10 CH loop (surface crochet); CH 1; work V-ST into next 2 CH space; CH 2.
*SKIP 2 DC; work 5 DC into next DC; CH 2; work V-ST into next 2 CH space; CH 1;
work V-ST into next 1 CH space AND 10 CH loop (surface crochet); CH 1; work V-ST into next 2 CH space; CH 2.**
Repeat from *to** 2 more times.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color B; join into any 3rd DC of a 5 DC group (center DC)
RND 6: Work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC]; CH 3; work 1 SC into next 2 CH space; SKIP next V-ST; CH 4; work 1 SC into next V-ST; CH 4; SKIP next V-ST; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; CH 3.
