Border – Free Crochet Pattern

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Vinnis Colours Nikkim (cotton yarn) – approx 1040 yards (952 meters) (colors listed in Pattern Notes); Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4. 00 mm (G) – I used Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:

Easy/Intermediate  – Basic stitches, with some special stitches – video tutorial available.
Special Stitches noted in the instructions.

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

PATTERN NOTES:

Gauge:
Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However if you use a different yarn and hook sizing will differ.

Finished Size:
Throw: Approx 115 x 115 cm (45 x 45 inch)

Colors:

  • F – Golden Brown/Old Gold (90g)

Instructions:

Join with yarn (F) into any corner – you will start in the center HDC/SC of a square in the corner.

RND 1: #Work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into corner; work 1 SC across square (38 SC); * work 2 SC across join; work 1 SC across next square (38 Sc).**
Repeat from * to ** until next corner.##
Repeat from # to ## 3 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.

Special Stitch:
2HDCtog – work 2 half double crochet stitches together over 2 single crochet stitches.
Note: this is the last SC and first SC of join; the 2nd SC of join and first SC of next square.

RND 2: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); #work 5 HDC into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 HDC into next 37 SC; *work 2HDCtog twice; work 1 HDC into next 36 SC.**
Repeat from *to ** until next corner.##
Repeat from # to ## 3 more times. SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH.

RND 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into same ST; work 1 SC into next 2 HDC; work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into next HDC (this is the center HDC – 5th – of corner HDC group) work 1 SC into each HDC across until next corner.
*Work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into 5th HDC of corner HDC group; work 1 SC into each HDC across until next corner.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.

RND 4: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into next SC; work 3 HDC into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 HDC into each SC across until next corner.
*Work 3 HDC into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 HDC into each SC across until next corner.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
