Scrapstopia Crochet Blanket Section Three
– Free Crochet Along –

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn –Vinnis Colours Nikkim (cotton yarn) assortment of colors and grams.
    Weight – DK (11 wpi)
  • Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
RS – right side
WS- wrong side

Gauge:
Not necessary for this project to be perfect.
However if you use a different yarn and/or hook sizing will differ.

Pattern Notes:
Stitch count is important!
Using the same type of yarn throughout the project is recommended. But if you are adventurous you can mix it up! The pattern suggests Cotton DK yarn but you are not limited to this type of yarn. Any yarn can be used as long as you take into consideration your sizing for the project will differ.

Instructions:

PLEASE NOTE: These strips are NOT THE FINAL SIZE of the blanket. They are two pieces of a much bigger puzzle!!

Section 3:

The colors I used:

Joining the squares:

Yarn usage:
approx 10-12 grams for joining both sets.

With 1st color – join each set of 8 squares with the SL ST (slip stitch) method.
Weave in ends.

The next instructions are repeated for both strips of squares:

Yarn usage:
approx 15-20 grams for 1st color; approx 15/20 grams 2nd color

With 1st color – join into FIRST corner space.

Note: optional – Work each SC into the 3rd loop of each HDC.
This is completely optional but it does look so pretty!

RS ROW 1: Work 1 SC into first corner space; work 15 SC over next (15/14) HDC – note for the 14 ST squares work 2 SC in any HDC just once – preferably in the center.
*Work 3SCtog over the next [corner space, join, corner space]; work 15 SC over next (15/14) HDC.**
Repeat from * to ** for the next 6 squares; work 1 SC into last corner space. (129 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With 2nd color – join into first SC worked

RS ROW 2: Work 1 SC into first SC; work 1 DC into next SC.
*Work 1 SC into next SC; work 1 DC into next SC.** Repeat from * to ** ending with a SC into last SC. TURN (129 STS)
ROW 3: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 SC into next DC.
*Work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 SC into next DC.** Repeat from * to ** ending with a DC into last SC. (129 STS)
ROW 4: Work 1 SC into first DC; work 1 DC into next SC.
*Work 1 SC into next DC; work 1 DC into next SC. ** Repeat from * to ** ending with a SC into 2nd of 2 CH.  (129 STS)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With 1st color – join into first SC worked.

RS ROW 5: Work 1 SC into first SC worked; work 1 SC into each ST until end. (129 STS)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With 3rd color – join into first SC worked.

RS ROW 6: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC until end, TURN (129 STS)

ROW 7: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC until end, TURN (129 STS)

ROW 8: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC until end. (129 STS)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

At the end of this section you should have a total of 2 x strips.

Size:  Approx. Length = 28 inch / 71 cm Width = 5 inch / 12 cm
