SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

Instructions:

Section 5:

The colors I used:

Sunshine; Princess Salmon & Princess Turquoise.

Joining the squares:

Yarn usage:  approx 10 grams for joining

With 1st color – join 4 squares with the SL ST (slip stitch) method. Weave in ends.

Square Rounds:

Yarn usage:  approx 10-15 grams for 1st and 2nd color.

With 1st color – join into center SC of corner 3SC of any square.

RS RND 1: Work 3 SC into first corner SC; work 1 SC into next 24 SC; work 3SCtog over next [SC; join; SC]; work 1 SC into next 24 SC.
*Work 3 SC into next SC (center SC of corner 3SC); work 1 SC into next 24 SC; work 3SCtog over next [SC; join; SC]; work 1 SC into next 24 SC.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times (208 SC = 49 SC on each side not including 3 SC corners.) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With 2nd color – join into center SC of corner 3SC of any square.

RND 2: Work 3 SC into first corner SC; work 1 SC into next 51 SC.
* Work 3 SC into next SC (center SC of corner 3SC); work 1 SC into next 51 SC.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times (216 SC = 51 SC on each side not including 3 SC corners.)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

The next instructions are repeated for both strips of squares:
This is a single row to be completed on each strip on the small squares side.

Yarn usage:
approx 15-20 grams for 1st color; approx 15/20 grams 2nd and 3rd color

With 1st color – join into FIRST corner space.

Note: optional – Work each SC into the 3rd loop of each HDC.
This is completely optional but it does look so pretty!

RS ROW 1: Work 1 SC into first corner space; work 15 SC over next (15/14) HDC – note for the 14 ST squares work 2 SC in any HDC just once – preferably in the center.
*Work 3SCtog over the next [corner space, join, corner space]; work 15 SC over next (15/14) HDC.**
Repeat from * to ** for the next 6 squares; work 1 SC into last corner space. (129 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Joining the Strips:

Yarn usage:
approx 10-15 grams for joining

With 1st color – join the 2 strips with the SL ST (slip stitch) method.
Weave in ends.

Side Row:

Yarn usage: approx 5 – 10 grams

TIP: work very loosely for this row – if you have a tight tension use a larger hook!

ROW: work as follows; join into corner ST;
Work 1 SC into joining ST; work 10 SC over next section; work 15 SC over next small square;
work 2 SC into join; work 10 SC over next section; work 15 SC over next small square; work 1 SC into last ST.
Reverse for other side. (55 SC)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

SC breakdown – Photo DOES NOT show first and last SC.
52 SC – you will need to work in ONE extra SC anywhere along the side – 53SC
plus first and last SC = 55 SC.

Joining large square to strips:

Yarn usage:
approx 10-15 grams for joining

TIP: start into center SC of corner 3SC of square.

With 1st color – join large square to strip section with the SL ST (slip stitch) method.
Weave in ends.

Large Strip:

Yarn usage:
approx 20-25 grams for 1st color.

With 1st color – join into center SC of 3 SC on corner of large square.

RS ROW 1: Work 1 SC into each SC until end. (185 SC = 55 SC over large square, 1 SC into join; 129 SC over strip section.) TURN.

ROW 2: CH 4 (counts as 1 DC plus 1 CH space); work 3DCtog over next 3 SC.
*CH 2; work 3DCtog over next 3 SC.**
Repeat from * to ** till last ST; CH 1; work 1 DC into last ST. TURN.
(61 Clusters; 2 DC)

ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 3 DC into top of Cluster; SKIP 2 CH space.
*Work 3 DC into top of Cluster; SKIP 2 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** till last ST; work 1 DC into 3rd of 4 CH. TURN
(61 x 3 DC groups; 2 DC)

ROW 4: CH 4 (counts as 1 DC plus 1 CH space); work 3DC tog over next 3 DC.
*CH 2; Work 3DCtog over next 3 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** till last ST; CH 1; work 1 DC into last ST. TURN.
(61 Clusters; 2 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

At the end of this section you should have one large strip.

Size:  Approx. Length = 39 inch / 100 cm Width = 13 inch / 33 cm
