Frilly Owl Crochet Applique

A cute, frilly owl crochet applique to adorn your items. Attach the owl to bags, clothes, blankets
or anything you can imagine. The perfect project to use up all your bits and pieces from your leftover yarn.
Frilly Owl Crochet Applique

Easy
Basic stitches in simple variations, shaping and finishing.
You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet).
Special stitches explained and provided in the instructions.
Materials
- Hook – 3, 50 mm (E)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Yarn:
Vinnis Colours – DK Nikkim 100% cotton (50 grams/119 meters) Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
- A (main color) = 10-15 grams/26-30 yards/23-28 meters
- B = 1-2 grams/2-5 yards/2-5 meters
- C = 1-2 grams/2-5 yards/2-5 meters
- D = 1-2 grams/2-5 yards/2-5 meters
- E = 1-2 grams/2-5 yards/2-5 meters
- Oddments of yellow; white and black = 1-2 grams/2-5 yards/2-5 meters
Purple Owl
· A – Princess Lilac · B – Pale Lilac · C – Lilac · D – Violet · E – Dark Purple

· A – Princess Blue Bell · B – Baby Blue · C – Blue Bell · D – Royal Blue · E – Purple Blue

Yarn Substitute:
Using the same type of yarn throughout the project is recommended. The pattern suggests Cotton DK yarn, but you are not limited to this type of yarn. Any yarn can be used if you take into consideration your sizing for the project will differ.
Tension | Gauge
Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!
Size
Approx 4 x 4 inches / 10 x 10 cm (length and width)
Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your owl will be a different size!

With A – make a magic ring/ or CH 4 and SL ST into first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.

NOTE: work into the BACK LOOPS of the LAST 6 STS of next round.
RND 2: CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch); work 2 DC into first DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC. ** Repeat from * to **4 more times; SL ST into first DC worked.

NOTE: work into the BACK LOOPS of the LAST 12 STS of next round.
RND 3: CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch); work 2 DC into first DC; work 1 DC into next DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC. ** Repeat from * to **4 more times; SL ST into first DC worked. (36 DC)
NOTE: work into the BACK LOOPS of the LAST 18 STS of next round.
RND 4: CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch); work 2 DC into first DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC. ** Repeat from * to **4 more times; SL ST into first DC worked. (48 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Petal Frills:
NOTE: for the next few rounds you will be working into the EXPOSED front-loops of the stitches into which you worked into the back-loops.
Join B – into FIRST FRONT LOOP of RND 1.
ROW 1: Work [SL ST; SC; HDC] into first loop; work 2 DC into next loop; work [HDC; SC; SL ST] into next loop.
Work [SL ST; SC; HDC] into next loop; work 2 DC into next loop; work [HDC; SC; SL ST] into next loop.
(2 x Petals)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join C – into FIRST FRONT LOOP of RND 2.
ROW 2: Work [SL ST; SC; HDC] into first loop; work 2 DC into next loop; work [HDC; SC; SL ST] into next loop.
*Work [SL ST; SC; HDC] into next loop; work 2 DC into next loop; work [HDC; SC; SL ST] into next loop. ** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join D – into FIRST FRONT LOOP of RND 3.
ROW 3: Work [SL ST; SC; HDC] into first loop; work 2 DC into next loop; work [HDC; SC; SL ST] into next loop.

Join E – into FIRST FRONT LOOP of RND 4.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Ears:
With A – join into FIRST DC next to a ROW 4 petal.
ROW: Work 1 SC into next 4 DC; *work [SC; HDC] into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; work 2 TR into next DC; work 2 TR into next DC; work 2 DC into next DC; work [HDC; SC] into next DC. ** Repeat from * to ** once more; work 1 SC into next 4 SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Eyes: (make 2)
With white yarn – make a magic ring/or CH 4 and SL ST into first CH worked to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT counts as stitch); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 2: work [SC; HDC] into next DC; work 2 HDC into next DC; work [HDC; SC] into next DC; SL ST into remaining STS.
Fasten off – leaving a long tail for sewing.
Optional Eyelids: (make 2)
With D – make a magic ring/or CH 4 and SL ST into first CH worked to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT count as stitch); work 6 DC into ring; work 6 HDC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.
(12 STS)
RND 2: Work 1 SC into each ST all around; SL ST into first SC worked.
(12 SC)
Fasten off – leaving a long tail for sewing.
Finishing:
- With yellow yarn – embroider a beak over the top half of RND 1 of body section.
- With black yarn – embroider pupils onto eyes.
- Sew eyes into position.
- Optional – sew eyelids into position.
