Passion Flower Hexagon Crochet Throw

Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.

You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).

Materials

  • Hook – 3, 50 mm (E)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Yarn

Vinnis Colours – DK Nikkim 100% cotton (50 grams/119 meters/130 yards)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.

Approx 580-800 grams / 1428-1904 meters / 1560-2080 yards (12/16 balls)

Two colorways Purple Pink / Blue

A – Dunes/Pale Khaki – 180 g (approx.) – 4 balls
B – Purple Pink/Pacific Blue – 120 g (approx.) – 3 balls
C – Plum/Kingfisher – 120 g (approx.) – 3 balls
D – Blue Grey/Peacock – 120 g (approx.) – 3 balls
E – Grey/Blue Grey 150 g (approx.) – 3 balls

Yarn Substitute:
Using the same type of yarn throughout the project is recommended. The pattern suggests DK yarn (Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light Worsted), but you are not limited to this type of yarn. Any yarn can be used if you take into consideration your sizing for the project will differ.

Gauge:
Not necessary for this project to be perfect – however same yarn recommended throughout. However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!

Finished Size:
Final Blanket Size including border – irregular in sizing.
Approx 100 cm (39 inches) at longest point and 75 cm (30 inches) at shortest point.

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your blanket will be a different size!

Instructions:

Flower – Make 12

With A – make a magic ring/ or CH 6; SL ST to form a ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 17 DC into ring; SLST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(18 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With B – join with a Standing BPDC around any DC

RND 2: *CH 1; work 1 BPDC around next DC. **
Repeat from * to ** all around; CH 1; join into starting BPDC.
(18 BPDC; 18 x 1 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With C – join with a Standing BPDC around any DC

RND 3: *CH 2; work 1 BPDC around next DC. **
Repeat from * to ** all around; CH 2; join into starting BPDC.
(18 BPDC; 18 x 2 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With D – join with a Standing BPDC around any DC

RND 4: *CH 3; work 1 BPDC around next DC. **
Repeat from * to ** all around; CH 3; join into starting BPDC.
(18 BPDC; 18 x 3 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – join into any DC either with a Standing DC/or SL ST and CH 3 (counts as 1 DC)

RND 5: work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME DC; CH 10; SKIP next – 3 CH; 1 DC; 3 CH; 1 DC; 3 CH.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME DC; CH 10; SKIP next – 3 CH; 1 DC; 3 CH; 1 DC; 3 CH.**
Repeat from * to ** 4 more times; SL ST into Standing DC/or 3rd of 3 CH.

With B – join into any 2 CH corner space either with a Standing DC/or SL ST and CH 3 (counts as 1 DC)

Note: when working the TR – you will be ‘catching’ the 3 long loops.

RND 8: work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME space; work 1 BPDC around each of next 6 DC; CH 3; work 1 TR into CENTER 3 CH space of RND 4; CH 3; work 1 BPDC around each of next 6 DC.
* Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 BPDC around each of next 6 DC; CH 3; work 1 TR into CENTER 3 CH space of RND 4; CH 3; work 1 BPDC around each of next 6 DC.** Repeat from * to ** 4 more times; SL ST into Standing DC/or 3rd of 3 CH.
(6 x TR; 72 DC; 12 x 3 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With C – join into any 2 CH corner space either with a Standing DC/or SL ST and CH 3 (counts as 1 DC)

RND 9: work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME space; work 1 BPDC around each of next 8 DC; CH 1; work Cluster into TR; CH 1; work 1 BPDC around each of next 8 DC.

Getting the Hexagons Ready for Joining:

With E

Work into corners the following when applicable: [1 CH; 1 SC; 1 CH]

Work hexagon side as follows: 1 SC into 4 STS; 1 HDC into 4 STS; 1 DC into 3 STS; 1 TR into 3 STS; 1 DC into 3 STS; 1 HDC into 4 STS; 1 SC into 4 STS.

  • For 2 Flowers work as follows –
    1 SC; 1 SC for joining corner; work side instructions;
    work corner instructions; work side instructions; end with 1 CH; 1 SC for corner.
    (2 sides worked)
  • For 2 Flowers work as follows –
    1 SC; 1 SC for joining corner; (work side instructions;
    work corner instructions; work side instructions) x 2 times; end with 1 CH; 1 SC for corner.
    (4 sides worked)
  • For 2 Flowers work as follows –
    1 SC; 1 SC for joining corner; (work side instructions;
    work corner instructions; work side instructions) x 2 times;
    work corner instructions; work side instructions; end with 1 CH; 1 SC for corner.
    (5 sides worked)
  • For 2 Flowers work as follows –

Note for first round work into back-loops of DC stitches

Start in a corner:
RND 1:
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into starting corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC; work 1 FPDC around each FPDC and work 4DCtog over the JOIN 2 CH spaces – (see photo); work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into corner spaces all round; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); *work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 DC into each DC; 1 FPDC around each FPDC.** Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With C/D join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 3: *Work 3 SC into corner space; work 1 SC into each DC; work FPSC around each FPDC. **
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into first SC worked.
