Mini Flower Crochet Treasure Box

SKILL LEVEL:

Easy
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.

You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and provided in the instructions.

MATERIALS:

  • Hook – 3,50 mm (E) (optional 4, 00 mm (G) for tension)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Yarn:

Elle Pure Gold Double Knit (100g / 284 yards / 258 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. – Approx. 35 grams / 70 yards / 65 meters

• A – Bamboo (29g)
• B – Sunflower (1g)
• C – Caberet (5g)

TENSION/GAUGE:

Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure true success of this project!

SIZE:

Bottom – 5 inches (12 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5 cm) in lenght with lid attached.

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your treasure box will be a different size!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Treasure Box Bottom:

With A – make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.

RS-RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT count as a ST); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.
(12 DC)

RND 2: CH 2 (does NOT count as a ST); work 2 DC into each DC all around; SL ST into first DC worked. (24 DC)

RND 3: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 1 DC into next DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC. ** Repeat from * to ** 10 more times; SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH. (36 DC)

RND 4: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 1 DC into each next 2 DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into each next 2 DC. ** Repeat from * to ** 10 more times; SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH. (48 DC)

Note: For this round work into the FRONT-LOOP only.

RND 5: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC all around; SL ST into first SC. (48 SC)

RND 6-10: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC all around; SL ST into first SC. (48 SC)

Note: For this round work into the BACK-LOOP only.

RND 7: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC all around; SL ST into first SC. (48 SC)

RND 8-12: CH 1; work 1 SC into each DC all around; SL ST into first SC. (48 SC)

  • TURN bottom inside out – RS (right-side is on the inside).
  • Flip RNDS 7-12 over and line up loops of bottom to SC.

Note: For next round work through the loops and the SC stitches to secure flipped over side to the bottom.

Bottom RND 1: SC all around (48 SC)

 

Frill RND: *SL ST into next SC; work [1SC; 1 HDC] into next SC; work 2 DC into next SC; work [1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 more times; SL ST into first SC.
(12 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Treasure Box Lid:

With B – make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH from hook to form a ring.

RS-RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT count as a ST); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.
(12 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: For this round work into the FRONT-LOOP only.
DO NOT TURN – keep working with RS (right-side) facing towards you.

With C – join into any front-loop with a SC.

RND 2: Work [1 HDC; 1 DC] into SAME loop; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next loop; SL ST into next loop. *Work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into SAME loop; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next loop; SL ST into next loop. ** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into space beneath the first petal. (4 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: For this round work into the BACK-LOOP only.

With A – join into any back-loop of RND 1behind petals.

DO NOT TURN – keep working with RS (right-side) facing towards you.

RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME loop; work 2 DC into each loop around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (24 DC)

DO NOT FASTEN OFF – tip secure A yarn with a stitch marker.

With C – join into any front-loop of RND 3 with a SL ST.

RND 4: *Work [1SC; 1 HDC] into next SC; work 2 DC into next SC; work [1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC; SL ST into next SC.** Repeat from * to ** 5 more times; SL ST into first SC.
(6 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – SL ST into first back-loop of RND 3behind petals.

DO NOT TURN – keep working with RS (right-side) facing towards you.

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME loop; work 1 DC into next loop. *Work 2 DC into next loop; work 1 DC into next loop; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (36 DC)

DO NOT FASTEN OFF – tip secure A yarn with a stitch marker.

With C – join into any front-loop of RND 5 with a SL ST.

RND 6: *Work [1SC; 1 HDC] into next SC; work 2 DC into next SC; work [1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC; SL ST into next SC.** Repeat from * to ** 8 more times; SL ST into first SC.
(9 Petals) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A – SL ST into first back-loop of RND 3behind petals.

DO NOT TURN – keep working with RS (right-side) facing towards you.

RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 1 DC into each next 2 DC.

Tip: If you have a tight tension – use a larger hook for the following rounds.
