Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.

You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).

  • Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
    Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a magic ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring, CH 2, work 3 DC into ring; CH 2

Yarn over hook;

Insert hook into ring;

Pull NEW YARN through ring; (DO NOT CUT YARN)

Continue making 1 DC;

Work 2 DC into ring, CH 2, work 3 DC into ring; CH 2, SL ST into 3rd ST of 3 CH, TURN

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into 2 CH space, CH 2, work 3 DC into same space (corner made)
CH 1; work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next 2 CH space;
CH 1; yarn over hook, insert hook into next 2 CH space;
Pull NEW YARN through space; (DO NOT CUT YARN)

Continue making a DC;
work 2 DC, 2 CH 3 DC into same space;
CH 1, work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into last 2 CH space; CH 1;
SL ST into 3rd ST of 3 CH, TURN

RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into 1 CH space, CH 1;
work 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC into corner;
CH 1, work 3 DC into next 1 CH space;

work 1 DC into each DC all around; work 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC into each corner;
SL ST into 3rd ST of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends

RND 7-9: Join new color into any corner space.
Repeat round 6
Fasten off and weave in ends

  3. The last part of R1 reads: "Work 2 DC into ring, CH 2, work 2 DC into ring; CH 2, SL ST into 3rd ST of 3 CH, TURN"
    But I think it should read "Work 2 DC into ring, CH 2, work 3 DC into ring; CH 2, SL ST into 3rd ST of 3 CH, TURN"
