
Halloween Monster Mini Baskets – Free Crochet Pattern
Whip up these terrific Halloween Monster Mini Baskets for some Halloween trick or treats fun!

SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 4 : Medium
Colors – green; red; white and black and a small amount of grey
Hook: 4.50 mm or any hook depending on size of basket required.
Notes:
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.
Takes about an hour to make.
Size: Basket – approx 7 cm in diameter and 7 cm in length
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
INSTRUCTIONS:
Basket:
Note: For Dracula – RND 1 – 4 in RED yarn; RND 5 – 8 in BEIGE yarn; last RND in BLACK
For Frankenstein – use GREEN yarn;
For Ghost – use WHITE yarn.
With yarn – make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST into first to make a ring.
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 11 DC into ring (12 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 1 DC into same ST; then work 2 DC into each DC until end of round (24 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; then work 1 DC into next DC. Repeat from * until end of round (36 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 4: working into back-loops only – CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 1 DC into each ST until end of round (36 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 5-8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 1 DC into each ST until end of round (36 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 9: CH 1; then work 1 SC into each ST until end of round (36 SC); SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Dracula & Frankenstein
Hair:
With black yarn – make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST into first to make a ring.
Repeat instructions for basket from RND 1 to RND 3;
Dracula only – RND 4: CH 1; work 1 SC into next 20 STS; then in the BACK-LOOP of next ST
work [1 HDC; 1 TR; CH 3; SL ST into first CH of 3 CH; 1 TR; 1 HDC]; work 1 SC into each of remaining STS.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Frankenstein only – RND 4: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); then work 1 HDC into same ST; work 1 HDC into next 2 DC.
*Work 2 HDC into next DC; then work 1 HDC into next 2 DC. Repeat from * until end of round (48 HDC); SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH.
RND 5: working into back-loops only (the center loop of the HDC) – *SL ST into next ST; work 1 SC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 1 TR into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next ST; work 1 SC into next ST; work a SL ST into next.
Repeat from * all around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
NOTE: the last repeat might be a ST short – but just SL ST into the first SC made.
The Eyes: (make 3 pairs) 2 x white; 1 x black
With white/black yarn – make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST into first to make a ring.
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 11 DC into ring (12 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
With some back yarn sew (embroider) some pupils.
The Eyelids : (make 3 pairs) green; beige and white
With yarn – make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST into first to make a ring.
ROW 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); then work 7 DC into ring (8 DC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 2 SC into each DC (12 SC);
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Frankenstein – The Screws (bolts): (make 2)
With grey yarn – make a magic ring or CH 6 and SL ST into first to make a ring.
Work 6 SC into ring; SL ST into first SC made;
turn circle with the wrong side facing towards you; SL ST into on the the back stitches (into any loop);
CH 6; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each of remaining 4 CH; SL ST into any back stitch (loop);
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing; weave tails thru the bolt tail before sewing.
First sew eyes into to position; then sew the eyelids over the eyes.
Sew the screws (bolts) to the side of the basket.
With some black yarn work up some ‘stitches’ alongside the ‘face’.
Dracula – Coat:
With red yarn – join yarn into exposed loop of RND 3
ROW 1: Work up 25 SC; turn
ROW 2-4: CH 3; work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into each ST until last SC; work 2 SC into last ST; TURN
ROW 5: CH 4 (counts as TR); work 1 SC into each ST until last ST; work 1 TR into last ST.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
First sew eyes into to position; then sew the eyelids over the eyes.
Embroider a mouth and some Fangs.
Ghost Hat:
Make a magic circle
The next few rounds are worked continuously – use a stitch marker to mark your rounds
RND 1: work 6 SC into circle;
RND 2-3: work 1 SC into each SC (6 SC);
RND 4: work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC);
RND 5-6: work 1 SC into each SC (12 SC);
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each DC; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (12 DC)
Note: Work 3 CH for first DC for next Rounds;
RND 8: (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC) 6 times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (18 DC);
RND 9: (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC) 6 times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (24 DC);
RND 10: (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 3 DC) 6 times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (36 DC);
RND 11 – 12: work 1 DC into each DC all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (36 DC);
RND 13: (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 4 DC) 6 times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (42 DC);
Fasten off and weave in ends.
First sew eyes into to position; then sew the eyelids over the eyes.
Embroider a mouth.
