Scrapsantastic Crochet Throw Part Twelve – Free Crochet Along
The Scrapsantastic Crochet Throw Part Twelve is part of a fun, unique blanket crochet along worked in a variety of stitches and squares. A puzzle constructed as you crochet.

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

INSTRUCTIONS
Border – Continued:
With B and 4, 00 mm join into the 2 CH corner of the FIRST CORNER.
RND 3: CH 2 (counts 1 HDC); CH 2; work 1 HDC into corner; work 1 HDC into each of next 156 DC.
Work [1 HDC; CH 2; 1 HDC] into SECOND corner; work 1 HDC into each of next 202 DC.
Work [1 HDC; CH 2; 1 HDC] into THIRD corner; work 1 HDC into next 78 DC;
work 2HDCtog over next 2 DC; work 1 HDC into each of next 77 STS; SKIP next ST.
Work [1 HDC; CH 2; 1 HDC] into FOURTH corner; SKIP next ST; work 1 HDC into each of next 200 DC; SKIP next ST; SL ST into 2nd of 2 CH.
(1st Side – 158 HDC; 2nd Side – 204 HDC; 3rd SIDE – 158 HDC; 4th SIDE – 204 HDC = 724 HDC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note: for the next 2 rounds the FIRST and LAST ST of each side will be SKIPPED. (this is a reminder – will be indicated in the pattern)
Note: for the next 2 rounds work into the 2ND BACK LOOP of each HDC (skip FRONT LOOP, 1ST BACK LOOP)
With C and 4, 00 mm join into the 2 CH corner of the FIRST CORNER.
RND 4: CH 2 (counts 1 HDC); CH 2; work 1 HDC into corner; SKIP next ST; work 1 HDC into each of next 156 DC; SKIP next ST.
Work [1 HDC; CH 2; 1 HDC] into SECOND corner; SKIP next ST; work 1 HDC into each of next 202 DC; SKIP next ST.

NOTE: If using a thicker yarn – a smaller hook would be recommended to make the shell border less wonky.
Special Stitch: Shell – SL ST into next ST; CH 3; work 3 DC into SAME ST.
RND 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 5 DC into FIRST corner; SKIP first ST; *work Shell; SKIP next 3 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** 38 more times. (39 Shells) SL ST into next corner.
Work CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 5 DC into SECOND corner; *work Shell; SKIP next 3 STS. **
Repeat from * to ** 50 more times. (51 Shells) SL ST into next corner.
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 5 DC into THIRD corner; SKIP first ST; *work Shell; SKIP next 3 STS. ** Repeat from * to ** 38 more times. (39 Shells) SL ST into next corner.
Work CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 5 DC into FOURTH corner; *work Shell; SKIP next 3 STS. **
Repeat from * to ** 50 more times. (51 Shells) SL ST into next corner.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note: The filler flower is optional – and if preferred it can be replaced with a small granny square (instructions below)
Filler Flower – Make 2
Colors:
- A – Princess Buttercup
- B – Mint
With A and 3, 50 mm – make a magic circle (this is recommended, however if you do not know how or struggle with this method, CH 4; SL ST into 4 CH from hook to form a ring.)
RND 1: CH 2 (does NOT count as a stitch); work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked.
(12 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With B join into any DC.
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each DC all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (24 DC)
RND 3: *CH 3; work 3 DC into SAME ST; SKIP next 2 DC; SL ST into next ST. **
Repeat from * to ** 7 more. (8 Shells)
Joining: SL ST into each of the CH of next 3 CH; *CH 6; SL ST into 3rd of next 3 CH; SL ST into blanket join (see photo) ** Repeat from * to ** 7 more times.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional Granny Square:

With color and 3, 50 mm – make a magic circle (this is recommended, however if you do not know how or struggle with this method, CH 4; SL ST into 4 CH from hook to form a ring.)
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC; CH 2. *Work 3 DC into ring; CH 2. ** Repeat from * to ** two more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
RND 2: SL ST into next 2 DC; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC. *Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 DC into each of the next 3 DC. ** Repeat from * to ** two more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH. (7 DC on each side = 28 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew squares into the gaps.
